Road closed in both directions after lorry overturns in Barrow-upon-Soar

Drivers are facing delays after a lorry left the road and overturned in a Leicestershire village. Police officers have closed Nottingham Road in both directions after the HGV flipped onto its side at the edge of the road in Barrow-upon-Soar. Drivers have been advised to find an alternative route.

A spokesman for the Leicestershire Road Policing Unit said: “There will be delays whilst an overturned HGV is recovered. Please see an alternative route.”

The incident is the second involving an overturned lorry causing problems in Leicestershire today. Motorists are being hit by massive tailbacks on the M1 after a lorry overturned on the southbound carriageway between junctions 19 at Catthorpe Intercharge and 18 at Rugby.

There are tailbacks of more than four miles and normal road conditions are not expected until 4.30pm.

Area Traffic Control have advised drivers to avoid the area.
