Suspected illegal migrant detained on M25 after 'waving at vehicles from rear of HGV'

A suspected illegal migrant has been detained after reports of a “person waving at vehicles from the rear of an HGV”. The Surrey roads policing unit tweeted that officers had detained the man on the M25 on Thursday morning (November 7). A picture shows the lay-by in St Peter’s Way, off Junction 11 Chertsey.

Police said: “After reports of a person waving at vehicles from the rear of this HGV [pictured above] on the M25 we stopped the vehicle and have located a male that has entered the country illegally. “He has been safely detained and will be handed to the immigration services. Thank you to those who called us.”

A spokesman for the Home Office confirmed that it was contacted by Surrey Police at around 10.55am on Thursday after officers attended an incident near Junction 11.

Police arrested a 21-year-old man who presented himself as an Iranian national, the spokesman said.

He is due to be interviewed by immigration officers and his case will be dealt with “according to the immigration rules”.
