Teenage driver dies at scene of A303 crash with lorry

A Somerset teenager has died at the scene of a crash on the A303. A car and an articulated lorry collided on the busy road at the junction with the A350 on Saturday (November 9). The road was closed for more than five hours after the incident, and police have today (November 10) confirmed that an 18-year-old from Somerset died at the scene of the crash.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “At approximately 5.15pm, officers were called to the A303 at the junction with the A350, known locally as Furze Hedge, following a report of a two vehicle collision. “A Volkswagen Golf, which was travelling westbound along the A303, collided with a DAF articulated Heavy Goods Vehicle, which was travelling in the opposite direction. “As a result of the collision, the driver of the Volkswagen – an 18-year-old man from Somerset – sustained serious injuries and sadly died at the scene.

The driver of the HGV was not injured. “The road was closed for five-and-a-half hours while officers from the Collision Investigation Unit carried out an investigation of the scene, and both vehicles were recovered. The road reopened at 11.45pm.”
