A90 closed at Brechin after bridge struck during road crash

Motorists are being advised to avoid the A90 at Brechin due to two road accidents including one involving a bridge being struck. Drivers have reportedly been stuck in long queues since around 5pm. Traffic Scotland confirmed that a bridge has been struck during the incident at the A90 and the road remains shut in both directions.

Meanwhile another road incident took place around the same time on the diversion route on the A935.

No details of potential casualties have been released at this time. There is a heavy emergency services presence in the area.

Bus services were disrupted, with passengers from the 4.45pm M9 service moved on to the M8 service.

? SERVICE UPDATE: The 16:45 M9 service from Aberdeen to Glasgow is delayed due to a RTI on the A90 at Brechin. Passengers boarding from Dundee & Perth will be moved onto the M8 service.

Drivers trapped in traffic have been advised to contact 101 for urgent queries.

The A90 will be closed for “some time”, according to Traffic Scotland, as bridge inspection needs to take place.

With no time-scale on when the road will re-open, fed-up motorists stuck in the queues have taken to social media to vent their frustration, with some considering abandoning their cars.
