Some Christmas dinners may be in doubt after a trailer shed a load of Brussels sprouts this morning.

Police were called to the scene at a roundabout in Rosyth, Fife, at around 10.45am after a trailer being pulled by another vehicle overturned.

Pictures posted on social media show tens of thousands of sprouts covering part of the road and pavement.

A huge clean-up operation is now underway, while the road remains closed 

There are no reports of any injuries.

Police Scotland said it had closed the road for a number of hours while a clean-up operation was underway and urged drivers to avoid the area.

The large blue trailer was seen on its side half on the pavement having crushed a metal railing.

South West Fife Police tweeted: 'There's been a bit of a #BrusselSprouts accident'

South West Fife Police tweeted: 'There's been a bit of a #BrusselSprouts accident at the roundabout at Admiralty Road, #Rosyth.

'Please avoid the area if possible. Traffic and GBPChristmas dinners may be affected.

Apologies for any delays...'

One Twitter user said: 'Sproutrageous driving', while another added: 'Just rinse those sprouts off and they'll be fine.'
