Tow truck driver loads car on train tracks in Melbourne's Chelsea

A tow truck driver has had a close call with a train in Melbourne’s southeast when he loaded a car while on the tracks.

The footage of the incident was taken at Blacks Crossing in Chelsea on Saturday around lunchtime and posted to social media by a shocked witness.

The driver can be seen winching a broken down car onto the tray of his tow truck, which is parked in the middle of the tracks.

He managed to load the car and leave the tracks before disaster struck, but just 10 seconds later the boom gates came down for a train to move through.

The truck company, Nationwide Towing and Transport, says the driver has not followed their standard safety procedures.

“Nationwide is aware of the incident and a full review is currently underway.

Nationwide takes matters like these seriously as the safety of our drivers, motorists and the wider public is of paramount importance to us,” the statement read.

“Nationwide is shocked and extremely disappointed with the driver’s actions, and we will deal with them accordingly.”
