Carol Vorderman compared to 80s pin-up after revealing her 'glamorous' North Wales work experience jobs

Carol Vorderman has revealed the “glamorous” work experience jobs that she had while in North Wales. The 59-year-old[1] made the surprising revelations as she was co-presenting BBC Radio Wales with Nathan Sussex over the weekend, following the news a teenager in the US had made history during an internship. Wolf Cukier was just 17-year-old when he undertook an internship at a NASA laboratory in 2019, where he worked with data from a satellite.

The US teen ended up discovering a planet during his training though, with Carol commenting it was beyond “over-achieving.” The incredible story led the former Countdown star, who was raised in  Prestatyn[2] , to discuss the “lots and lots of work experience” that she herself had while a teenager in North Wales.

Her most exciting training came when she visited Wrexham Tech though, while studying to be an engineer. “I know not quite work experience,” Carol explained, “but for a summer I learned how to turn stuff on lathes, metal.” The 59-year-old added she also “learned how to drive what we call a roller truck” and “did a whole week of welding,” but wasn’t particularly good at it.

Co-host Nathan was stunned by the news, calling it “glamorous because in Flashdance she was a welder.”

It seemed that Carol wasn’t as familiar with the 1983 Oscar-winning film, admitting: “I did not know that.”

And following her impressive revelation, Carol revealed her friend – and star of the Chase – Mark Labbett had an interesting work experience himself. She said “My mate Mark Labbett, who is the giant Welshman on The Chase, […] text me this morning and he said ‘I did work experience at Butlins and I discovered quiz machines’.” The 59-year-old said she initially didn’t believe her friend but he later explained that “it was destiny” – as he worked hard that summer researching the answers to the questions he got wrong.
