A cyclist has died after he was hit by a lorry during rush hour on the A40 this morning.  

Metropolitan Police were called to Western Avenue in Northolt, North West London, at 6.20am, after reports of a collision between a cyclist and a HGV.  

Despite efforts by the emergency services, the cyclist was pronounced dead the scene. 

The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests. 

Tailbacks were seen on the A40 at 7.56am with cars at a standstill on the major road coming into London. 

Traffic was at a standstill from Swakeley’s Roundabout with diversions causing long queues through Ickenham and Ruislip.

The road remains closed eastbound between Hillingdon Circus, Long Lane (A437) and the Polish War Memorial, South Ruislip.   

Police are continuing inquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision.

TFL tweeted that the road remains closed eastbound between Hillingdon Circus, Long Lane (A437) and the Polish War Memorial, South Ruislip

Anyone with information, or who may have captured the collision on dashcam footage, is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference 1171/03JAN. 

It comes after a 19-year-old man died after his motorbike collided with a lamppost in South View, Bedfont Road, Feltham. 

Police were called at 9.03pm last night.

The emergency services and air ambulance also attended. 

It is believed no other vehicles were involved in the collision and next of kin have been informed.
