Drivers urged to avoid M1 after huge lorry fire

Drivers have been told to avoid a section of the M1 as fire crews tackle a large blaze on the motorway. Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service released a dramatic image of the incident, which has closed the northbound exit slip at J25. The A52 exit for Derby and Nottingham has been blocked off since 7am on Sunday, January 12, it is currently unknown when it will reopen.

Crews from Derbyshire and traffic officers are at the scene.

Stapleford Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning to drivers on Facebook saying: “The exit slip from the M1 northbound at Junction 25 has been closed by our colleagues who are dealing with a large vehicle fire.

“Please avoid if possible.”
