Lorry blown over near Holmfirth as Storm Brendan sweeps in

A driver had a lucky escape when his lorry was blown onto its side near Holmfirth. The driver was on the A635 Greenfield Road, above Holmfirth, when the gusts got to the better of the vehicle at around 3pm today. A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said the driver had called the Force at 3.04pm to report his lorry had been blown over.

The vehicle involved is a white DAF truck with curtain sides. “The driver contacted West Yorkshire Police and was not injured.”

Recovery of the truck has been arranged. Police have been stopping traffic at the Wessenden Head Road junction as the lorry was partially blocking the road.

Forecasters have been predicting winds of up to 70mph from Storm Brendan.

The stormy weather could last for the next five to seven days, according to Huddersfield weatherman Paul Stevens.
