M1 traffic: Motorway closed 'all day' after massive crash between two lorries

The M1 motorway in Bedfordshire has been closed after a serious crash involving two lorries. Emergency services and Highways England are warning of severe delays following the early morning collision. The M1 has been shut in both directions between J13 near Milton Keynes/ Bedford and J12 in Flitwick and is likely to remain closed until tonight.

Traffic camera images from the scene show the cab of one of the two lorries involved badly wracked with debris scattered on the road. They tweeted: “ROAD CLOSURE – M1 Southbound Junction 13-12 is CLOSED until further notice whilst we attend a serious road traffic collision, expect delays.” Highways England confirmed officers have cleared all the trapped traffic as emergency services continue to work at the scene. “Traffic is currently flowing well on the approach to both closures,” Highways England said.

They added the M1 will remain closed “for some time”.

Bedfordshire Police said in a statement: “Emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the southbound carriageway of the M1.

“We were called at around 6.43am this morning (Saturday) to reports that two HGVs had been involved in a collision between J13 and J12.

“The motorway is currently closed in both directions while we and fellow emergency services deal with the incident.
