Man in 20s dies after crash at entrance to East Midlands Airport

A man has died after a crash at the entrance to East Midlands Airport. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 10.40pm last night, Tuesday, January 21, on the A453 at the junction for the entrance to East Midlands Airport. The accident involved a black Peugeot 207 and a blue MAN Tipper truck.

The passenger in the Peugeot, a man in his 20s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have said that the driver of the Peugeot remains at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham in a stable condition. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Officers had to close the road for a number of hours while emergency services responded at the scene.

Detective Constable Louise McMahon, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At the time of the collision, the Peugeot was travelling along the A453 away from the direction of the M1 motorway and the truck was travelling eastbound in the opposite direction.

“I am keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle beforehand to get in touch.

Alternatively, anyone with dash cam footage is also encouraged to contact us.”
