'Misogynist truckers need women behind the wheel'
One of the most senior women in the haulage industry has attacked “generational misogyny” in the sector as it seeks to recruit tens of thousands of drivers. Kate Lester, founder and chief executive of Diamond Logistics, said that freight companies needed to “think differently” if they were to survive challenging market conditions as she criticised the “pretty woeful” pace of change. Her comments come as British hauliers grapple with a shortage of about 60,000 heavy goods vehicle drivers, with women accounting for an estimated 1 per cent of the existing crop.
