Poorly cat found inside truck after 100-mile journey

A cat covered in oil and scratches was discovered in the back of a truck after hitching a ride. The tabby was found in the vehicle in Exeter on January 14. The truck had been driven from Camborne and had stopped in Bodmin on the way.

The tabby is being cared for by the staff at the Cats Protection Exeter Axhayes Adoption Centre, who are trying to trace his owner. They say he was in poor condition when he arrived but is making good progress. In an update shared on Facebook, they said: “He is doing well and gaining weight from all the regular meals he enjoys.

“He’s still having frequent washes with the CCA’s [cat care assistants] to remove the rest of the oil and dirt in his coat. His small wounds are healing slowly. “He loves all the fuss and TLC.

He’s been getting and is very popular among the staff as he’s such a sweet cat.”

The staff have been giving him baths in a bid to remove the oil from his coat. They say initially they couldn’t even tell the colour of his legs. Updating their description, the team said: “His feet which looked tabby are now white and he has white long socks on his back legs.”

The cat has no microchip or collar but has been neutered.

He is white on the lower half of his face, chin and bib.
