Road reopens after emergency services called to overturned gravel lorry Asda in Cheltenham

An overturned truck closed part of a road near to an Asda supermarket in Cheltenham[1] today, shedding gravel on the road. The vehicle overturned in Hatherley Lane, near to B&Q and Nuffield Health Hospital, at the roundabout for Arle Court park and ride. Emergency services were on the scene with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service[2] and Gloucestershire Constabulary[3] in attendance.

The road remained closed while the lorry recovered the load of gravel shed during the incident, and reopened at 2.15pm. The driver is believed to have suffered minor injuries and has been taken to hospital by ambulance. A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire police said: "Police were called to Hatherley Lane in Cheltenham shortly before 9.30am following reports of an overturned lorry.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said: "We were notified by police that a lorry carrying gravel had overturned and there were reports of a man trapped. "We sent three fire engines (from Cheltenham East, Cheltenham West and Gloucester North) at 9.32am but on arrival the man had been released.

"He was injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. Crews remained at the scene to make the vehicle safe and the stop time was 9.47am."

The road reopened at around 2.15pm.
