A terrifying video shows a driver spin out of control and crash into an HGV moments after overtaking another lorry.

The BMW driver ignores hazard markings to race past the lorry and then cuts in front before accelerating away.

But the motorist comes unstuck as he loses control on a bend and crashes side-on into an HGV coming the other way.

Fortunately, the HGV driver was able to reduce his speed before impact and the motorist is thought to have escaped uninjured.

But his driving earned him a GBP400 fine and five points on his licence at Poole Magistrates Court, Dorset, police revealed yesterday.

Dorset Traffic Police said the incident happened last summer in Gravel Hill, Poole, but only recently came to court.

Police posted the clip to social media, warning: ‘It’s real life. Not a video game. We only get one go at it.

Don’t risk throwing it away.’

A photograph taken at the scene shows the serious damage caused to the BMW.

The car’s entire left side was destroyed upon impact.

The windows in the car were completely smashed and the car crumpled.

The driver and passenger of the truck have spoken out about their ordeal in the comments.

Driver Frances Ray-Williams wrote under the police post: ‘I was the driver of the truck and I am so grateful to Dorset Traffic cops as the officers did everything they could for me. I only hope this person knows the upset and trauma I went through.’

Her husband, Stephen Ray-Williams, claimed: ‘If we hadn’t been in that truck at that time, the two young girls in the car behind us would have been killed. We had stopped, because I knew he was going to hit us.’

Some people feel the car driver got off lightly.

Nigel Greer said: ‘GBP400 and five points?

This person should have been banned.

If this was a car and not a truck someone could have been killed!

I see no lesson learned here.’

Phillip Morris added: ‘This person should never be allowed to get back behind the wheel, should be banned for life.’

Peter Robbo wrote: ‘Just a shame that sort of driving didn’t come with a prison sentence though and a lifetime ban.’

Susan Ann Amey said: ‘The courts should have banned him for years, thank goodness no one was hurt due to this mindless idiot.’
