Truck driver, 66, dies from injuries suffered in Oakland County crash

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – A Michigan truck driver has died from injuries he suffered in an Oakland County crash.

Roger David Thomas, 66, of Burton was pronounced dead at the Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor just before 2 p.m. on Dec.

29.

He had been hospitalized since a Dec.

18 crash in which the gravel hauler he was driving struck a 2016 GMC Acadia on Dixie Highway near East Holly Road in Springfield Township.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas was traveling south on Dixie Highway when the Acadia driven by a 66-year-old Springfield Township man pulled off a side street in front of him.

The gravel hauler struck the GMC and then overturned onto its side.

Thomas was transported to Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township and later to the Michigan Medical Center.

The case has been presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review, officials said.
