VIDEO: Police arrest four over 'immigration offences' after 'people flee from back of lorry'

POLICE have made a number of arrests after a member of the public saw people leave the back of a lorry on a busy Somerset road. Avon and Somerset Police said four arrests had been made in connection with ‘immigration offences’ at around 8.15pm last night (Wednesday, January 15). The road remained closed until after 11pm, with drivers heading north on the A38 being turned around at North Petherton Rugby Club.

“We were called at around 8.15pm tonight by a member of the public who’d witnessed several people exit the back of a lorry on the A38 at North Petherton,” a police spokesperson said. “Officers attended and a number of people have been arrested on suspicion of immigration offences. “No one is believed to be injured.

“The road is currently closed while we carry out enquiries and search for others who made off from the scene.”

One North Petherton resident, Britney Ayres, managed to capture footage of what appears to be people fleeing from the lorry.
