Driver support campaign launched

Chippenham Pit Stop, the independent truck stop located near J17 of the M4 has launched a social media campaign to recognise heavy goods vehicle drivers as unsung heroes of the coronavirus pandemic, under the title of #ThumbsUpForTruckers. The campaign aims to encourage the public to thank truck drivers, who, like supermarket and NHS staff, are performing essential services by helping to keep the country fed and the economy ticking over during lockdown “Trucks are often viewed as a nuisance slowing traffic down.

This is a way that we can show our appreciation, engaging with lorry drivers who will join in telling their stories of what they are carrying and how far they have been,” says director Lisa Hatherell.

The truck stop has already been allowing truck drivers to cut their risk of contracting the virus by ordering ahead and having food and shopping brought out to their cab, and we’ll be looking at that operation in more detail shortly.
