FHP: Semi-truck driver dies after crashing empty log truck off U.S. 29

From staff reports Published 8:15 PM EDT Mar 27, 2020 A semi-truck driver died Friday after crashing his empty log truck in Escambia County.

John Rivers, 59, of Greenville, Alabama, was transported to Atmore Community Hospital after the crash and was pronounced deceased. Rivers was driving the Mack semi-truck northbound on U.S.

29 toward Ponds Street at about 11:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol. He failed to maintain his lane and left the roadway, driving onto the west shoulder and colliding in trees, the report stated.

The crash remains under investigation.
