Lengthy delays hit motorists after crash involving HGV closes lanes on A66

Motorists were hit with severe lunch time delays after a two vehicle smash on the A66. Traffic was backed up after the main carriageway of the route was completely closed on Thursday. A HGV and a Fiat 500 collided shortly before 2pm on the road at the A1032, Newport Bridge approach road.

Cleveland Police said two lanes were shut as a result of the crash while recovery of the vehicles took place. No injuries were reported. The lengthy delays also affected traffic heading towards the A19 Tees Flyover.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 1.57pm to reports of a three vehicle collision on Cannon Street, Middlesbrough . "We sent a double crewed ambulance to the scene." They added that upon arrival, no one required hospital treatment and no one was treated at scene either.

A diversion was put in place but the A66 was soon reopened shortly after 2pm.
