Driver arrested after HGV seen 'weaving from lane to lane' on the M6 in Staffordshire

Police have arrested a driver after a HGV was seen ‘weaving from lane to lane’ on the M6 in Staffordshire. Officers from the Central Motorway Police Group stopped the vehicle while it was travelling through the county this afternoon. The driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs after failing a test at the roadside.

A CMPG officer took to Twitter following the incident. The tweet said: “Following reports of a HGV weaving from lane to lane on the M6 in the Staffordshire area, the driver failed a roadside drugs test. “Driver arrested and off to custody.”

Motorists guilty of driving under the influence of drugs face being banned from the roads for a minimum of one year, an unlimited fine and up to six months in prison.
