On IDAHOBIT, a transgender truck driver tells her story

It’s not easy telling your colleagues you’re transgender if you’re a truck driver, but that is exactly what Daria did and it turned out much better than she anticipated. “I had to be true to myself and that’s the best thing that anybody can be, is actually true to themselves,” Daria told Libbi Gorr on ABC Radio Melbourne. The 50-year-old says the company she works for “treated her fantastically” and she’s glad she had the courage to finally be herself.

Today is IDAHOBIT day, or the International Day against homophobia, biphobia, interphobia and transphobia, a day Daria says is necessary.

“I understand that in my community there are a lot of people who are very fragile and this day would mean a lot to them,” she said.
