Pedestrian killed in M56 lorry tanker crash

A pedestrian has sadly died in a collision on the M56 in Cheshire this morning (May 18). A HGV tanker and a pedestrian were involved in the incident, which took place at around 5.30am. The motorway between junction 14 and junction 12 was closed following the incident but has now reopened.

Officers from Cheshire Constabulary were called to the scene following reports of the collision. Sadly the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The HGV driver was uninjured and liaised with officers at the scene. There remain delays in the area with traffic also on surrounding roads in Frodsham, Hapsford and Sutton Weaver.

A spokesman for Cheshire Constabulary said: "At around 5.30am on Monday 18 May police were called to reports of a collision on the M56 in Cheshire, between junctions 12 and 14. "On arrival it was found that a HGV tanker, travelling in the direction of Runcorn, had been involved in a collision with a pedestrian. "The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The driver of the HGV was uninjured and liaised with officers at the scene."
