Pc Dave Lee, who works for the force's Safer Roads Team, said: "I guess this Polish HGV driver who was standing up whilst driving and not wearing his seatbelt caught on camera didn't want to follow the interceptor and did a Derby Dive from the M1 onto the M6 last minute. "Sadly for him. He wasn't expecting us to be behind him."

Baffled web users reacted with astonishment after the force posted a picture of the lorry pulled over on the hard shoulder. Debra 51 wrote: "Did you say standing up, what the hell." Tommy Greenwood said: "How do you manage to drive standing up???

I can't even get my head around this, what goes through some people's minds??? Just crazy." Paul Stevens put: "Not the most upstanding citizen you've come across then, ironically.

What a complete wally. "Hope he gets a severe punishment, this is beyond dangerous."
