Tributes to Deliveroo driver who died in crash with lorry

Tributes have been paid to a Deliveroo driver who was killed after a crash with a lorry. Marcos Vinicius Martins was driving his moped for work on Tuesday afternoon when he was involved in a collision with a grey Scania HGV on Churchill Way.  He was taken to hospital with head injuries but later died.

Tributes have been paid to the 34-year-old husband and father, who leaves behind his devastated friends and family. In a statement, his wife, daughter and friends said losing Marcus has left a "huge void" in their hearts. One friend said his daughter would wait up every night for him to return home from work.

In the joint tribute, they said: "The world preaches many surprises. Many make us suffer, bring sadness, pain and grief.

"His [Marcus'] departure, so premature, was one of those unforeseen surprises of destiny that take us off the ground. "No one could imagine that you would leave us so soon. Those endless conversations that lasted for hours and hours came to an end, always in no hurry and very calm to speak.

You left a huge void in our lives and in our hearts." They added: "After your departure, our life will never be the same.

You will always be alive in our memories, will always be part of our lives in the great and small memories. "You left a lot of love in us. His love for life continues to pulse in our chest.

Follow your path in peace, illuminated by God's blessings. "We will always be here, praying for you and sending our positive energies of love and care." Tomorrow, a procession will take place through Basingstoke from the Skyline Plaza to Churchill Way in Marcus's memory.

To date, more than GBP9,000 has been raised to help pay for the funeral.
