Young man fighting for his life after lorry crash on busy Derbyshire road

Police say a young man has suffered life-threatening injuries after a serious incident on a busy Derbyshire road. Nottingham Road, in Ilkeston, was partly closed in both directions for several hours overnight and early this morning following a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian. The closure was between the road's junctions with Brooke Street and Furnace Road, near the Gallows Inn pub.

A 25-year-old man, the pedestrian, is fighting for his life. Derbyshire police have released the following statement about the incident: "We were called to a report of a serious collision between a lorry and a pedestrian in Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, at 1.45am this morning. "The pedestrian, a 25-year-old man, was taken to hospital for treatment with injuries that are described as life-threatening.

"The road was closed for a number of hours but has now reopened.

"An investigation into the collision is in its early stages."

Drivers were forced to find different routes following the closure until 9am when the road was reopened.
