Car fire and crash left M1 blocked for hours

A car fire and crash left miles of delays on the M1 this afternoon after the southbound road was closed. The incident, involving a lorry on the M1 southbound at junction 24 near East Midlands airport, also left the A50 blocked by traffic. Staff at Castle Donnington fire station tweeted: "Attended with @DerbyshireFRS and @nottsfire.

"Car fire and road traffic collision on the M1 Motorway Jct 24. Please make sure you take care now the roads are getting busier. Don't get distracted with radios or phones and always wear a seatbelt. #StaySafe."
