Florida annual town meeting preview

When: 7 p.m. Friday Where: Florida Senior/Community Center, 367 Mohawk Trail

Little unchanged: Not much has changed in the annual budget, but the town is seeking to pull less money from the stabilization fund and free cash to pay for various line items. Annual contributions to ensure law enforcement presence in the remote area make up a slightly larger margin of the budget than last year. The town is looking to invest in enhanced emergency equipment, a used truck for the highway superintendent and new sealing on the school's brick face.

School spending: Select Board members praised Principal Heidi Dugal for crafting a slim budget at Gabriel Abbott Memorial School. Dugal usually ends up giving money back to the town, but asks for more than the bare minimum in case unforeseen circumstances require the cash. The amount allocated for the school is the same as last year, while funding for Northern Berkshire Vocational Tech School District decreased by £28,131.
