M6 delays of 50 minutes after lorry sheds animal waste

A specialist clean-up operation is underway on the M6 after a lorry shed a load of animal waste. Two lanes are closed on the M6 Northbound at Junction 8 M5 after the HGV spilt its cargo across the carriageway, around 4pm on Friday (June 26). Drivers are told to expect delays of up to 50 minutes according to traffic provider Inrix.

Traffic is backed up to Junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and to Junction 1 (West Bromwich) on the Northbound M5. The A34 towards Walsall, A41 Holyhead Road as well as Oxhill Road round Handsworth are also congested as drivers try to find alternative routes. Lanes one and two, out of three, are closed, as well as lane one on the link road from the Northbound M5 onto the Northbound M6.

A specialist recovery unit is on scene to clean up the waste. All the lanes are expected to open from 10.30pm on Friday. Highways England tweeted: "There are currently delays of 30 minutes above usual travel time on approach to this M6 incident.

"As well as 16 minutes above the usual travel time on the M5 north between J1 and the M6.

"Please allow extra time for your journey, should you be travelling in the area."
