Tyneside Cinema to consult 111 staff over 'unavoidable' job cuts

Tyneside Cinema is entering into job talks with 111 staff as it looks to make redundancies in its fight for its future survival. Newcastle 's much-loved independent cinema, which launched a fund-raising appeal at the start of lockdown to keep it running during the coronavirus closure, contacted its workers on Monday to kickstart the consultations.

And it warns that a reduction in staff numbers is "unavoidable" given the current crisis. The 1937 cinema, a charity, has notified all 111 staff based at its Pilgrim Street premises - including its three food and drink outlets: The Tyneside Bar Cafe, Vicolo and the Tyneside Coffee Rooms - that they are at risk of redundancy or subject to changes in job terms and conditions.
