Breathtaking footage shows the moment a driver runs after his truck as it rolls through a zebra crossing and crashes into the side of a bus.

The hair-raising incident happened at 8:00 a.m. on Friday morning on Croydon High Street in South London.

It appears the driver had loaded the forklift onto the back of the truck, but did not fully retract the base of the low loader leaving it overhanging.

A biker (pictured) managed to grab onto the truck and slow it down before it hit a parked car (pictured) on Croydon High Street

Whilst driving down Edridge Road the rear of the truck was scraping along the road and the vehicle became stuck when the driver stopped at the zebra crossing.

Resident Oliver Shah started filming when he heard the noise, however, he could never have predicted the events that followed.

The driver got out his cab, and began to lift the base away from the road into the correct position, it then became clear that he had forgot to apply the handbrake as the truck started to move.

He can be seen running after the vehicle as it collided with the side of an Abellio double-decker bus and it then manoeuvred off to the right towards a parked vehicle.

Luckily a biker managed to grab onto the side of the truck to slow it down. The driver climbed in the passenger side and managed to stop it before it hit a parked car.

Just when you thought disaster was averted he proceeded to reverse the vehicle almost crossing a Dominos pizza delivery driver on a scooter.

Members of the public can be heard shouting to warn him as the rear of the truck is almost touching the handle bars and the petrified biker jumps off.

Oliver, who works as a lorry driver himself, can't believe that he's caught the incident on camera. He shouts to men on the street below: 'I've got the whole thing on video.'

He adds: 'Oh my f****** god, this guy is off his trolley.'

Speaking today he said: 'I'd rather not be on the road with him about.

The truck also narrowly avoided a Dominos pizza delivery driver on a motorbike

'I'm surprised the forklift didn't come off the lorry as there were no straps securing it.'

It's understood although the vehicle is displaying a company logo, the truck was recently sold on and the new owner has chose not to remove the livery.

Edmund King, AA president, said: 'Driving larger vehicles, such as flat-bed trucks, takes in-depth training, skill and attention to detail.

Unfortunately in this incident those attributes didn't appear to be present.

The truck drives away following the incident. The Met Police has confirmed they weren't called

'The only saving grace is that nobody got seriously injured or killed from the runaway truck, thanks mainly to the actions and warnings from alert members of the public.'

TFL and Abellio have been contacted for comment.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed they weren't called to this incident.
