Shocked residents speak out after 'speeding' car ploughs into Ladysave in Firth Park, Sheffield

Residents have described the dramatic moment a “speeding” car ploughed into the side of a shop on a busy Sheffield high street before the driver allegedly fled the scene. A wall on the side of Ladysave, which is on the corner of Bellhouse Road and North Quadrant in Firth Park, was obliterated after a devastating crash which happened around 1pm this afternoon. Police cordoned off the two roads as well as Bevercotes Road after the crash which was witnessed by many people and video footage seen by South Yorkshire Liveappears to show a man fleeing the scene of the crash.

Hamza Islam, 25, saw the crash in full as he was stood outside his shop GBP Saves which is opposite Ladysave. He said: “He was inches away from hitting the bus because the bus driver had just stopped there at the junction. “He was speeding and I heard the screeches and then this loud bang.

“Apparently he had already crashed into someone’s car at the top of the road and after he went into the shop the car was smoking.”

Mr Islam claims the man got out of the car and went about two or three metres away before returning to the wreckage to pick up a bag. He then fled the scene again and South Yorkshire Police said they are now trying to trace the driver of the Ford Mondeo. Mr Islam says amazingly this is not the first time a car has smashed into the side of Ladysave and he admits if the car had continued going down the hill, the consequences could have been graver.

“It could have been a lot worse had he gone straight down [the hill],” he said.

“This isn’t the first time a crash has happened. In 2017, a milkman left his van parked but didn’t put the handbrake on and it went into another shop. “The same thing happened to Ladysave another time so this is the second time it has happened but that time it just went into the shutters.”

Jack Davidson, 26, who heard the bang from the collision from his house in Bellhouse Road, said: “I heard the car come screeching down the hill and then I heard this bang.
