Truck fire on A42 near Ashby forces police to close road
Emergency services rushed to A42 after a large vehicle burst into flames this evening (June 3). Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at around 5.30pm on the A42 close to Junction 13. Appliances from Ashby and Castle Donington stations, as well as the water carrier from Loughborough station, were called to the scene.
Leicestershire Police were also in attendance. Both lanes heading Northbound were closed as emergency services dealt with the incident.

There have been no reports of any injuries and one lane has now been reopened on the A42. Congestion and traffic in the area is now easing. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire.
“Both of the Eastbound lanes were closed.
“Police and Highways were also in attendance.”
The incident has now been passed over to Highways England whilst recovery work was carried out.
