Woman dies in hospital following collision involving pick-up truck

A woman in her 80s has died following a collision between a Toyota Yaris and a pick-up truck in Dorset. The collision took place on the A354 near Sixpenny Handley, east of Shaftesbury, after the grey Yaris hit the silver Mitsubishi pick-up at around 6.45am today (June 19). The woman had to be freed from the Toyota by fire services and she was taken to Southampton General Hospital for further treatment.

She passed away in hospital, with Dorset Police confirming her family had been informed. The driver of the Mitsubishi, a man in his 50s, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Looking for today's top stories in one place? Sign up for our newsletter here.

The road was closed while the collision was dealt with and investigations of the scene were carried out. Dorset Police has launched an appeal for anyone who has any information or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward. Sergeant Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: "Our thoughts are of course with the family of the woman involved at this difficult time.

We will be carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.
"I would appeal to any witnesses who have not already spoken to us or anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam to please contact us. "Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place."
