Derbyshire road blocked for hours after lorry gets stuck

This is the moment a lorry driver caused chaos on a Derbyshire road after attempting a turn too big for his wagon. Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit were called after the driver of the vehicle caused a complete obstruction of the highway. The blue HGV had to be rescued by a tow, which officers called out after arriving at the scene.

The driver of the truck was then billed for the costs of the recovery. Police tweeted: “Whatstandwell earlier today. HGV attempts to turn round after going down a restricted road and beaches the truck.

Police recovery called and operator charged for their services.”

People were quick to defend the driver. One tweeted: “Do you think the truck driver did it on purpose?” Another hoped it was a lesson learnt: “Thank you for charging the transport company for the recovery costs – there’s a real chance that the more frequently you do this, the greater the likelihood that HGV drivers will become more ‘road-aware’.”

It is not known whether the driver was following a sat-nav at the time.
