Man due in court after police found 76 live birds in truck on A1 motorway

A man is due to appear in court later this month after he was stopped on the A1 (M) by officers who found 76 live birds inside his pickup truck. North Yorkshire Police's Rural Taskforce officers stopped his Toyota Hilux near South Milford, and discovered the birds inside, including hens, geese, guinea fowls and ducks. The 44-year-old was arrested in the afternoon of July 1 and charged with illegally having animals.

This morning, July 2, he has been charged with breaching a disqualification order imposed in 2019, under section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
