A truck driver has rammed into the back of a P-plate driver behind the wheel of a Lexus after being cut-off on a busy road.

The incident was captured on Monday morning along an 80km/hr stretch of Windsor Road at Rouse Hill in Sydney's north-west.

Dashcam footage shows the provisional driver indicate for several seconds before pulling into a small gap in front of the truck ahead of a set of traffic lights.

Within seconds the truck is on top of the Lexus, which speeds up and out of the way.

The truck then accelerates and rams into the back once again, but the P-plater regains control and drives off.

Footage was shared on Facebook to Dash Cam Owners Australia and sparked a furious debate over who was at fault.

'He can't see you...

Today this driver learned (hopefully) not to cut in front of a truck,' the video was captioned.

Most commenters agreed the driver had failed to give adequate notice for changing lanes, and was likely sitting in the truck driver's blind spot.

'Putting on your indicator when there's no gap does not entitle you to change lanes and make those already in the lane give way to you,' one man wrote.

'With all the social distancing rules you would think people would have learnt about keeping a safe distance,' another joked.

Others were critical of the driver's knowledge about heavy vehicles and blind spots.

Moments later the truck driver accelerates and appears to deliberately run into the back of the Lexus for a second time

'If you cannot see the truck driver in his mirrors or direct line of sight, you do not drive in front of him/her,' another said.

But others condemned the truck driver for retaliating.

'The car did wrong... but this was deliberate from this truck driver... and he should be punished for this... his license should be cancelled...' a woman wrote.

Under New South Wales road rules, drivers must keep a minimum three second gap between them and the vehicle in front.
