Teenager texted ‘I’m sorry’ to his mother before crashing into lorry
A teenager who suffered depression killed himself by deliberately crashing his car into an oncoming lorry after missing out on a place at his chosen university, an inquest heard.
Jasper de Pelet, 18, took his own life by undoing his seatbelt and veering his VW Golf into an oncoming lorry at more than 60mph after visiting his girlfriend’s house.
The driver of the HGV was not hurt.
Seconds before the crash he had sent his mother a text message which said: “I’m sorry.” In journals found after his death he wrote that “even when I am at my happiest sadness can crush me at any time”.
