A41 The Expressway closed for hours after lorry overturns

An overturned lorry caused travel chaos and closed a busy Black Country route for several hours. Emergency services were called to A41 The Expressway in West Bromwich, just before 9.30am on Thursday, August 27. Following the incident, which happened near to the M5, the driver of the HGV was taken to Sandwell Hospital.

His injuries were not believed to be serious.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of an overturned lorry at the junction of the A41 and Birmingham Road at 9.24am. “One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. “On arrival we discovered one patient, a man, who was the driver of the lorry.

“He was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Sandwell Hospital for further assessment.”

Police have warned motorists that the road is closed to traffic heading away from M5 J1, towards Great Bridge.

A spokesman said: “Expect closures and delays for several hours.”
