As it happened: Lorry fire shut A550 Welsh Road near Two Mills junction

A lorry fire was causing major traffic problems in Cheshire this morning. The A550 Welsh Road was closed in both directions due to a HGV fire on Parkgate Road in Ledsham. Motorists were experiencing queuing traffic between the A540 Parkgate Road (Two Mills Traffic Lights) and the B5463 Ledsham Road.

Emergency services were called to Parkgate Road at around 10.20am this morning (August 27) to reports of a fire. When firefighters arrived they discovered a trailer on top of a HGV was on fire. A cordon was put in place and firefighters from Ellesmere Port and Powey Lane Fire Station worked to extinguish the flames.

The driver of the vehicle was checked over at the scene by paramedics. The southbound closure of the A550 was also affecting traffic between the M53 junction 5 (Eastham) and the A494 at Shotwick Junction. The road reopened at 2.10pm.
