HGV overturns in Preston crash forcing closure of key road

A lorry has overturned in a dramatic crash in Preston, forcing the closure of a key route. Millennium Road in Ribbleton has been closed by police this afternoon (August 28) after the smash near the junction of Bluebell Way and Longridge Road at the roundabout. Emergency services are on scene and Lancashire Constabulary officers say the road will likely be closed for some time.

Only minor injuries have resulted, it has been confirmed. Congestion in the area has been described as ‘severe’ and there are delays on all approaches. A police spokesperson said: “We are currently at the scene of a collision on Millennium Road in Ribbleton, Preston.

The road is likely to be closed for some time while the incident is dealt with. Please avoid the area if you can. Updates to follow.”

A spokesperson for Lancs Road Police added: “Due to an overturned HGV at the junction of Bluebell Way and Longridge Road, Preston there is currently severe congestion and road closures are in place. “Please avoid the area if possible until the vehicle is recovered. Thankfully the driver has only sustained minor injuries.”
