Investigation underway after bus crash in Darlington town centre

AN investigation is underway after a collision between a truck and bus in Darlington town centre. It happened on Stonebridge, in Darlington, at about 9.05am today. A spokeswoman for Darlington Police said it involved a flatbed truck and a bus.

She added: “The flatbed truck is believed to have collided with the front of the bus, then made off from the scene onto St Cuthbert’s Way. “Thankfully nobody is thought to have suffered any injuries in the collision.” Mark Piccolo, who was getting another bus in the area at the time, said: “The front window screen and the driver side window was completely smashed.

“I didn’t see what it hit but it must have hit something pretty hard for that damage.” The bus involved was an Arriva number seven. An Arriva spokesperson said “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident in Darlington Town Centre on 17 August, there have been no reported injuries.

“We are working with local authorities and are in the process of undertaking a thorough internal investigation.”

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 0076.
