Live: Driver taken to hospital and long delays after HGV hits M6 bridge

Two lanes are closed and motorists are experiencing long delays after a lorry hit a bridge pillar on the M6. Highways England and motorway cops were called just before 3.30am to reports of a collision on the M6 Northbound. The accident is between junction 14, Stafford North, and junction 15, Stoke-on-Trent.

Traffic was initially stopped but is now running off a single lane. A Highways England spokesman said: “Lanes one and two, of three, are closed on the M6 J14 Stafford North to J15 Stoke-on-Trent Northbound due to a collision into a bridge pillar involving a lorry.

“Traffic officers are on scene with the Central Motorway Policing Group, we are working to get the lorry recovered and the bridge made safe.”
