UK records 1,033 new coronavirus cases today

The UK has recorded 1,033 new coronavirus cases today, down from 1,182 yesterday. It comes after fears the UK’s coronavirus pandemic is growing as the ‘R’ rate has risen to above 1. The reproduction number has risen to 0.9-1.1.

This is an increase from the range of between 0.8 and 1.0 one week ago. The ‘R’ rate refers to the average number of people an infected person will infect. When it is above 1 – a disease will spread exponentially.

Hull has seen an increase of 1, with the cases at 1,603 and an R rate of 616.7.

East Yorkshire has seen an increase of four, with 1,682 cases and an R rate of 493.
