Live Cambridge Coldhams Lane traffic updates as lorry hits railway bridge and Greater Anglia cancel trains

Trains have been cancelled and a major road through Cambridge is set to be shut for the next five hours after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge and became wedged underneath it. The articulated lorry has become struck underneath the railway bridge over Coldhams Lane close to the Sainsbury’s roundabout and Cambridge Airport this Monday afternoon (September 7). The road has been closed, and traffic is building as diversions have been put in place.

Some of Cambridge’s railway lines have also been blocked by the accident, and disruption to trains is “expected until further notice” Greater Anglia has said. Trains passing through Cambridge towards Newmarket are being diverted, and are now no longer calling at either stop. A witness to the scene on Coldhams Lane says the accident is significant, and that the road is “inaccessible and traffic is starting to build”.

Cambridgeshire Constabulary have told drivers to avoid Coldhams Lane for the next four to five hours on either side of the bridge. We’ll have live updates below with any updates to the traffic situation, railway delays and more.
