Live updates as serious crash on Rhondda road leaves two in 'critical' condition

Two people have been left in a critical condition following a crash in Rhondda. The serious crash involved multiple vehicles and closed a road and caused a power cut in some houses in the area. The crash happened just after 9am on Wednesday in Cymmer on Trebanog Road.

According to South Wales Police, five people in total required hospital treatment. One man and one woman, who were in separate vehicles, have been admitted to hospital where they remain in a critical condition. Their families are aware and are being supported.

The other three sustained minor injuries, including the driver of the coach. The road remains closed and an eyewitness said a police cordon has been put in place and it looks like at least three vehicles were involved in the incident as well as a van and a bus. The local resident said: “It looks really bad, there are around five police cars here, ambulances and a fire engine.

“It looks like someone is being cut out of a van which is on its side and there is a car crashed into a lamppost. “There is a bus further down the road too. All the power has gone off in the houses around here.”

A spokesman from South Wales Police said the road is currently closed and is expected to be so for some time.
