Meet our first group of readers with stars in their eyes… o Karen Williams, from Carmel, met Take That’s Gary Barlow and Howard Donald in Manchester, September 2017: “After being a huge Take That fan since the 90s, I took my mum to the press night for ‘The Band’ the musical and finally had a photo with Gary Barlow and Howard Donald, which they took with my phone. Selfies are the modern day autograph!!
Mark has always been my favourite and just as he got to me he was dragged away to talk to the press. I will get that photo one day though!”
o Angela Wilkes, from Lixwm, met comedian Russell Brand, at Venue Cymru, Llandudno in 2018: “My sister and I went to see Russell’s tour. I approached him for a selfie. Russell took it because my arms were too short and I couldn’t get us both in the picture!
I’ve met him a couple of times and he’s a really lovely guy.” o Jacqui Lloyd Jones, from Buckley, met Gavin and Stacey’s ‘Dave Coaches’ on Barry Island, in June 2014: “We were visiting Cardiff, and popped over to Barry.
Steffan Rhodri was there doing a charity event. So I made my donation, and got my selfie and an autograph.”
o Hollie Thomas, from Wrexham met X Factor star Olly Murs in Liverpool, December 2015: “Me and my friend had gone to watch Radio City Live at Christmas, we had just got off the train and she needed cash. We walked over to the cash point and the London train pulled in, so many people got off but for some reason I recognised the coat. I said ‘there’s Olly Murs’ and she didn’t believe me, I said it again and it was him!
Nobody else had even realised who it was until we were having a picture.” o Martin Roberts, from Bronington, met cast members of ‘Allo ‘Allo, at an event at Whitchurch in August 2017: “I met these charming people making their way to the meet and greet tent, they were ever so polite and approachable, it made my day, as I have loved ‘Allo ‘Allo since I first watched it.
They were more than willing to have their photo taken and to talk to me and my wife, it was a dream come true to meet them.” o Jo Hughes, from Aston, met the Foo Fighters in 2005: “I worked at Leeds Festival as project manager for years, met a lot of the bands on and off stage.
I was very lucky to have a drink with the Foos and play some pool with them after their set, nicest and the most down to earth bunch of lads I’d ever met.” o Shannon Louise, from Mold, met actor brothers Ryan and Adam Thomas at Oswestry Truck Show, August 2016: “I went to the truck show and every year they have celebrities, when I found out Ryan and Adam were going to be there, I wanted to go, as I’ve always wanted to meet them.
They were both really nice men and you could have a laugh with them.” o Cerys Stevens, from Wrexham, met Welsh rugby union player Leigh Halfpenny at the Trevor Arms, Marford in 2018: “Went to an Evening With… and got to meet him he was absolutely lovely.”
o Adrian Marks, from Wrexham, met Brian Johnson, lead singer AC/DC, in Majorca, in 1980: “Three of us having a beer in a bar, bloke walks in with two minders, thought he looks familiar, so we asked him, sure enough it was BJ. Bought us a beer, top bloke.”
o Liv Clark, from Holywell, met a Doctor Who star at Wales Comic Con: Telford Takeover in December 2019: “David Tennant remembered me telling him about the tattoo I was planning on getting (cyberman head in a rose with his autograph) the April of 2019, and was really impressed with it, as well as referencing it in a talk with him and Matt Smith later that day! He had also seen it prior to Comic Con as Georgia (his wife) had shown him the picture I tweeted!”
o Melanie Brown, from Oswestry, met actor and campaigner Ricky Tomlinson in Liverpool 2014: “Ricky was doing a street campaign. I signed his petition and asked for a photo, as I have always watched him in things like Brookside and Royle Family.”
