A BUSY road has been closed after a lorry overturned during rush hour, covering it with POTATOES. Police and the Trunk Road Incident Support Service raced to the Thistly Cross Roundabout in East Lothian shortly before 8am today.

A southbound section of the A1, which links Edinburgh to England, has been closed by cops. Motorists are being diverted on the A199 between Haddington and Thistly Cross Roundabout.

TRISS are working to recover the tractor, which landed on its side on the roundabout, spilling spuds all over the carriageway.

Workers in high-vis vests have been seen brushing hundreds of potatoes onto the verge in a bid to clear the road for drivers.

Traffic Scotland reported the crash at 7.45am, and confirmed the road had been closed by 8.15am. It is not yet known if there have been any casualties reported from the incident. A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “We were called to reports of a one vehicle crash involving a tractor around 7.40am on the A1 near Dunglas Bridge in Dunbar.
