Truck driver caught with a stash of cocaine worth $10 million at Canada border

A truck driver was arrested by Canadian border officials after £10 million worth of cocaine was discovered inside a tractor-trailer coming from the United States. The incident is among the largest drug seizures from a truck at the U.S.-Canada border since it closed for nonessential travel in March due to COVID-19.  An unidentified male truck driver was arrested on Aug.

18 at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, a U.S.-Canada border crossing linking southern Ontario and western New York. Officers conducted a secondary inspection after noticing anomalies in the packaging of the shipment. They discovered 117 kilograms of suspected cocaine in 104 packages concealed in the commercial load. The CBSA estimated the drugs were worth about £10.6 million.

The driver and the evidence were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Hamilton Niagara Detachment.

The investigation is ongoing.
